Managing Sources in Cost of Goods
What are COGS sources in TrueProfit?
There are three sources that the app can sync COGS data for your products: From Shopify, CJ Dropshipping, or manually edited in TrueProfit.
Shopify source
If you manage the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) of your products in the Shopify admin, TrueProfit will automatically pull and update this data in the Cost of Goods settings.
To add or edit your product's COGS on Shopify:
Open the variant's Pricing settings.
Enter the COGS value in the Cost per item field.
By default, all product COGS data is sourced from Shopify. Any future changes made to the Cost per item field on Shopify will be updated in TrueProfit accordingly.
Note: If the Cost per item field of a variant on Shopify is empty (value equals 0), the Shopify source is considered unavailable in TrueProfit. Therefore the default source for these variants will be Manual.
If the Shopify source of your product/variant is disabled, you'll need to add the "Cost per item" value for the product on your Shopify admin. Once TrueProfit can detect a value other than $0.00, the app will auto-update and enable the Shopify source for you.
CJ Dropshipping source
If you have your CJ Dropshipping account connected with TrueProfit, the app will retrieve COGS data from your fulfilled orders and apply it to the matching products in the Cost of Goods setting. To find which order the product's COGS is synced from, open the Orders Report and find the most recent order that you fulfilled from the CJ source.
Note: At the moment, TrueProfit can only match COGS data from orders that include one product only.
Manual source
A product’s COGS source will switch to Manual when you edit the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) field in the TrueProfit app. This means the variant/product's COGS will use the manually entered value to calculate costs for future orders in your store.
How to switch between Sources for one or multiple products
COGS source is now editable for all products in your store. If you want to switch back to the Shopify/Manual source that was used before, click on the dropdown arrow and select the source. When switch to another source, the historical COGS value will be applied for the product/variant.
Switch COGS source for multiple products/variants at once
To quickly switch sources for multiple products or variants in your store, select them then click on the Reset source to button to select the COGS you want.
Important note:
If the Cost per item field of a variant on Shopify is not set or set as 0, the Shopify source for that product will be counted as unavailable in TrueProfit.
If you have never made manual edit to the COGS value of a product or variant on TrueProfit, the Manual source for that product will be counted as unavailable.
When switching COGS source for multiple products/variants at once, if the selected source of the product/variant is unavailable, the COGS value will not change after you switch.
Applying your changes in product costs to all orders in the past
All the edits you made to a product/variant will be saved and applied to future orders only. If you want to apply new costs to orders in the past as well, you will have to recalculate all past orders in TrueProfit.
Recalculate past orders means applying new changes to all orders that match for all products. If you want to manage different product costs in the past, add COGS periods like the instructions above.
How to recalculate past orders for one or multiple products
Step 1: Select the products or variants that you want to recalculate using the checkboxes at the left of the table
Step 2: When a product or variant is selected, you can see the Re-calculate product past orders button shows up at the top of the table
Step 3: Click Re-calculate product past orders to start applying and recalculate COGS for all orders in the past of the selected products/variants
