Set up Shipping Costs

The Shipping Cost settings is where you can set up calculation rules for your store based on different zones and product groups in each zone. If you don't use any integration to sync shipping costs to TrueProfit, follow the steps below to start setting up Shipping Costs for your store.

Calculation Settings



The rules you set in this setting will be applied as the default rules for all orders in your store. By setting up how you want to calculate shipping costs for items/variants or products in an order, the Orders Report will be calculated accurately for the Shipping Cost field.

To open the Calculation settings, click Settings in the top right corner of the Shipping Costs page.



In this page, there are two main settings: Calculation rules in an order and Multiply shipping cost per unit

Calculation rules in an order (for different products)





For orders with different products and variants, it is important to determine how you want to calculate shipping cost on the variant level. In this setting, you can set to use the highest shipping fee among the variants or the sum of all variants in an order.

For example:
If you select Use the highest shipping fee of any variant, then an order that includes item A and item B - with shipping fees respectively are $3 and $4, the final shipping cost will be $4.
If you select Sum shipping fees of all variants, then an order that includes item A and item B - with shipping fees respectively are $3 and $4, the final shipping cost will be $7.

Calculate multiple items of the same product



In an order, your customer can buy more than one item of a product. Therefore, it is important for you to set whether the shipping costs per unit are multiplied with item quantity in an order or not.

Important note: If you need to set up quantity break for shipping costs, the Multiply shipping cost per unit purchased option must be enabled.

For example:
If you enable this setting, when an order has 2 items/variants of the same product with a shipping fee of $3 per item, the final shipping cost is $6. If not checked, the order's shipping cost is $3.



Example order



To help you visualize this setting better, we've added an example order in this section. When you make a change in the setting, you can see how it will affect the shipping costs calculations in an order. In the example order, you will find these elements:


Product name: There are two product in this order: "Men shoes" and "Leather bag", note that "Men shoes" has two different variants and "Leather bag" has only one default variant.
Quantity: The purchased quantity of each variant.
Shipping cost per unit: How much it cost to ship each variant.
Sum: The total shipping cost of each variant calculated based on your rules.
Final shipping cost: The final shipping cost that will be used to calculated for this order, based on your rules.

Remember to Save your settings before exiting the page.

Understanding the Shipping Costs settings



To effectively manage your Shipping Costs by location, the main setting is based on zones. A zone can be a group of different countries or U.S. states.

By default, the costs set for each zone apply to all products in your store. If you need different costs for specific products within a zone, you must create a Product Group within that zone.

Setting worldwide Shipping Costs with the Default Zone



A zone is a collection of countries/regions sharing the same shipping cost. There are two types of shipping zones: Default Zone and Custom Zones.

Default Zone: Applies to all countries not included in other zones. If no other zones are created, the Default Zone covers all countries worldwide.
Custom Zones: Allow you to set different shipping costs for specific locations. Note that a country can only belong to one zone at a time, and any country not included in a custom zone will default to the cost set in the Default Zone.

Custom Zones are ideal if your shipping costs vary by location. If shipping costs are uniform globally, you can simply use the Default Zone to set your rates.

Using the Default Zone for worldwide shipping


The Default zone is the default setting that applies to all locations and products in your store.

How to edit cost in the Default Zone

Here, if your products have different shipping costs worldwide, you can create a Product Group and add the custom cost to the products.

Using Custom Zones to add shipping costs for different locations


Click on Add custom zone in the Custom zone section
In the popup modal, enter a Zone name
Select the countries you want to add to this zone. Note that in the United State, you can add each state separately.

How to add a Custom zone for Shipping Costs

If a country is already added to a zone, it will be unavailable in other custom zones.

Understanding Product Groups



Product groups are collections of products that share the same shipping cost settings. These groups are organized within shipping zones. Here’s how it works:

Default Product group: This group is part of the Default Zone and applies uniform shipping settings to all products that are not assigned to any specific group.
Multiple Product groups per zone: A single shipping zone can contain multiple product groups, each with its own unique shipping cost settings.
One group per product: A product can only belong to one product group within the same shipping zone. Once added to a group, it cannot be added to another group within that zone.

Update your changes in Shipping Costs to all orders in the past



After you've made edits in the Shipping Costs settings, the app will save your setting to apply to future orders only. If you want to apply new costs to orders in the past as well, please click the button Re-calculate past orders to apply the new costs to all of your orders in the past.
